I just explored the city. It is about 80% bigger than I thought is was and the street names are VERY confusing. The cathedrals are so beautiful ad I can't wait to visit some of them. Of course I forgot my camera but I guess it doesn't matter since I don't have the right cord to plug it to my computer anyways. Andres drove me around and we stopped at a really high place that looks over the entire city. It was amazing and SO BIG! The province of Quito that I will be living in is called Pichincha and I can see mountains from my window.
Drivers here are the craziest I have ever seen in my life. Horns out the wazoo and cars come within inches of hitting one another and it's totally normal for everyone- EXCEPT ME! Needless to say, I was borderline having an anxiety attack the whole time. I survived, woohoo! I can't wait to explore the city this weekend [yes mom and dad, I'll be with a group in the safe areas] :)
My host parents gave me a phone to use for calling locally but I need to buy minutes for it. It's pretty old so they said no one would want to steal it! I have to ride the bus tomorrow so everyone be praying for me that I can figure it out and get to my university on time. My host mom told me where to go down the street and I get on a green bus that will take me all the way to my campus in Cumbaya. I have a feeling it may be a bit harder for me than she thinks...
Juice is served with every meal. I like that it's freshly squeezed but sometimes I just want some water. I've had tomato juice, orange juice and some reddish/pink kind (I couldn't understand what they we're telling me- definitely wasn't strawberry). My speaking is so so right now. I can get my point across but not usually in the most intelligent ways. I can definitely listen and write better in Spanish than I can speak. Practice makes perfect, right? I better get in A LOT of practice.
It sounds wonderful already. Good luck in class tomorrow! I love you!
