Hola chicos! My first day here has been awesome. At first I thought I had to wake up early for orientation BUT it is actually tomorrow. Yay, I got to sleep in. No Mom, I didn't sleep until 12. I got up at 10. To my surprise the maid, Adriana had made a delicious breakfast for me of fruit, coffee, cheese and ham. I ate with my brother Andres [he's actually 25] but I have yet to meet my sister Veronica [she's actually 29]. Both live at home and we share a bathroom.
My plane landed at 11:30 then immigration and customs took about 45 minutes. My host family found me right away when I walked out with my [very heavy] luggage. It was kind of like a scene in the movies with people holding signs with the names of their exchange students on it. My family didn't have a sign, I guess since I sent them a picture of me. When we arrived home [it's like a gated duplex thing] I was offered el jugo (juice) and la sopa (soup). I was really full but couldn't refuse :) I drank TOMATO juice, that's right, I stepped out of my comfort zone and I even liked it. They use these orangish/ yellow tomato to make it. The soup was a brother with carrots, rice, onions and cilantro. It was very good!
ALL OF MY STUFF FIT IN MY ROOM! I will admit, I brought just a little bit to much ;) Go ahead everyone, do the "I'm right, you're wrong" dance. My closet is pretty big and I have a dresser so I squished everything in. I have a vanity too which is very nice.
I have definitely taken for granted how easy it is to get fresh water in the US, and hot water I might add. The hot water has to be turned on so you have to turn a switch about 30 minutes before you want to shower. Even though I did that, it was still lukewarm but that's perfectly fine since it's 70 degrees and beautiful. The maid (I feel so weird saying that) boils the water and that's what we drink from. There's no ice. That sucks. Another different thing is that the plumbing systems here can't handle toilet paper so everything is put in the trash; even when you... #2...
Last paragraph, Lo prometo (I promise). My stomach is fine so far, but I hope I didn't just jinx myself. I really hope it stays that way. I may have possibly brought the wrong camera cord with me so no pictures until I figure it out, sorry! I'm off to explore the city with my host family!
I never realized what an amazing writer you are, I love reading your blog Cur! I can't believe you have a maid, i think I would trade hot showers for a maid. Miss you!! Ps. Fix your camera already. Love you!
ReplyDeleteAwww, you're too kind. I am not so good with spelling so I'm sure there are many typos
